When installed unfinished hardwood is to be sanded, i.e. shaved off about 1/16"-1/8" wiht sand paper of different grit. It will make unfinished wood perfectly even and ready for staining and finishing. Unfinished hardwood (when done) looks like even solid wood surface. As for the Prefinished hardwood in most cases you will see small grooves in between hardwood planks, which are getting more vivd within some time when dust, dirt gets there. Besides, Unfinished hardwood can be refinished and Prefinished one is not supposed to be refinished. Besides, unfinished hardwood is the only wood that can be installed with boarders, inlets and medallions. Though, Prefinished hardwood floor is factory finished with several coats of UV-cured polyurethane applied. These factory finishes are tough and durable. Installing a prefinished floor eliminates the time, the dust and the odors associated with the on-site sanding and finishing of an unfinished product. A prefinished floor can be installed in a day. An unfinished flooring installation may require twice as much time or more for the same area. |
